A Five Minute Trick to Optimize Windows

Ever wonder how to improve speed and overall performance of your computer? Having a computer doesn’t just mean that you’ll just have to use it. It also means that you have to maintain the system for a good performing computer. This article will tell you some tricks on how to optimize your current Windows operating system for a better performance.

Turning Off or Setting Low the Graphics and Visual Settings

A simple looking desktop is a better performing computer compared to a desktop with fancy graphics and feels set on its computer. What? Yes. Those fancy sliding, widgets and other animated effects that Windows is defaulted with can easily be turned off and can make simple computer tasks like opening programs faster than usual. To do so, just hit Start and then go straight to Control Panel and then select System or System and Security. From there, select Appearance and Personalization for Vista or higher. If you’re under XP, select “Advanced” tab and go to Settings button below Performance and uncheck the options that are related to visual effects and animations. You’ll see that just by turning off and getting rid of the animated features, your computer’s response will be quicker.

Get Rid of All Malware in your Computer

If your computer is a bit slow, you might want to check if there’s an infection in the system that you did not know of. Get a good anti-spyware and adware scanner in addition to your anti-virus and anti-malware programs. Why? It is because just having one anti-virus scanner doesn’t guarantee you that the computer is already malware free due to different kinds of malware. Virus is just one of them. Also, the effects of virus and malware to the computer varies from just annoying to frustration. Remember to keep your anti-malware scanners updated. Always update the scanners too so the Windows is always optimized.

Edit Startup Items

If you have noticed that the computer takes longer time to load when you boot it up, this could be because of the growing list of items that the computer are programmed to start when the computer is turned on. As you continue to install programs in the computer, these programs automatically add themselves to the list of programs in the startup that may always make the computer’s speed slow. In order to remove items from Startup tray in Vista or higher, you should go to Control Panel, System Maintenance and then to Administrative Tools. Go to System Maintenance and select System configuration. Choose the Startup tab and remove check marks on programs that are not needed to start when the computer boots. For XP users, just click on Start and then click Run. Type msconfig and enter. Select the Startup tab on the window that will appear and uncheck the unnecessary programs that would load on a startup. Restart the computer for the changes to take effect.

Uninstall Programs

Your computer may act slowly when it carries plenty of programs and applications that are just not needed or not used any longer. To optimize your computer, uninstall the unnecessary programs from the control panel and clean the computer registry from debris and data left after uninstall. A good restart will make the changes on the computer take effect.
