Don’t Let Sidebars Slow You Down

When your computer is running on operating systems like Windows Vista or Windows 7, it contains features called Windows Sidebar and Gadgets that can be found on the side of the desktop. Then Windows Desktop Gadget, commonly known as Windows sidebar in Windows Vista, is an engine for widgets for Microsoft. It was first introduced in Microsoft Vista operating system, embedded with the operating system itself. It features a sidebar located at the side of the desktop. The gadgets, which are the widgets in the operating system, can perform many different jobs like displaying the battery meter or the CPU’s current usage.

The Windows desktop gadget includes mini-applications which are based on HTML and Scripts. They are generally used to display information about the computer such as the computer system’s RAM usage, system time, and little slideshow of images, notes and CPU usage by the minute. These gadgets can be placed anywhere in the desktop or they can be docked on the side of the screen. One great feature of these Gadgets is that you can run multiple of them simultaneously. The sidebars also make your desktop look really fancy and personalized. However, sidebars in the desktop will also generally slow your computer’s performance down without you noticing it. It is because the widgets are also programs and any program that is running in your computer is taking up memory. Less memory for your computer to use means slower computer performance.

If you are using too many sidebars or widgets in the sidebar for your computer, the performance of the computer will slow down due to the number of applications it is running simultaneously. Also, some scripts used to make the gadgets in the sidebar are erroneous and would actually make your computer perform slowly instead of making it fast. The reports that the sidebars give you might be wrong due to the wrong HTML the sidebar was created. Because of that, the computer may just be running unnecessary widgets that your computer can live without.

Moderate your sidebar or else remove it entirely for a faster and optimal computer system. New computers which are usually fast can still be faster when sidebar widgets are less or that there is no sidebar gadget running in the desktop. Many of you think that you can’t just live without your computer not having the sidebar but let me tell you, sidebars do look good but the downside is more pressing than the appearance it gives. A noticeably slow albeit new computer is embarrassing at times. I’m sure you would agree that it is better to have a fast performing computer over a sleek looking desktop with fancy colors and information gadget but a slow performing one. So if you cannot get rid of the gadgets altogether, start removing them one at a time until your computer’s speed increased dramatically. Turning off sidebars gives the computer ample memory to be used by the processor in running the programs you want to use.
