Clean Your PC by Emptying Temporary Files

Whenever you create a file, document, view web pages online and check some online shops, information about your activity and copies of files created are saved and stored in your computer for future references. Whether you are just checking something online, creating a document for your presentation at work or reading news online, those little pieces of information are remembered by the computer. These kinds of data are stored in a location on your browser and also on a specific folder in your computer called the Temporary Folder. Generally, there is no reason for the users to get worried about these files as they are just temporary. However, what if sometime sooner you will have to decide to sell your computer to a stranger because you got a new one for yourself or that there are many people who allowed accessing your computer at your home? All those information saved by the computer about your activities online will then be open and traceable.

Even if you are not so worried about your privacy and your internet activity is open for other people to see, you would still be having problems soon as those saved files take up large space in your computer’s memory and hard disk that should be used for other important files. Temporary files, commonly known as temp files, are made primarily for backup purposes. Many programs like the Microsoft Office have temp files for every file created so that it can still be revived just in case the computer lost power or accidentally crashed. Temp files are basically deleted after a file is saved and the program is closed properly. However, temp files are not deleted for instances like if the program just quits unexpectedly.

Also, some files are not removed automatically when a program closes. These kinds of files can accumulate on your hard drive after some time without you noticing. Finally, web browsers such as Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer creates files called Temporary Internet Files. These files are the information you have entered into your browser while in a webpage. It may be your username, passwords, browsing history, web pages visited, bank accounts or credit card number which the computer remembers once you reenter the same data again. The computer becomes cluttered with these kinds of data entries over a long period of time which can result to slow browsing speed, low memory space, low hard disk space and slow process of the computer.

To be able to clean your computer and get rid of these files, you may go and delete the files in your Temp Folder which can be accessed easily by typing %temp% on the Start, Run dialog box. Also, in your internet browser, just click on Tools, Clear Recent History and delete everything from there. That way, your browser can be faster.
